Dig out the history of French West Indies:
The French West Indies is an overseas territory that is officially under the French Republic. It is believed that Christopher Columbus discovered Martinique in 1502. Indians inhabited the region. The period of colonization started in the 17th century. However, in 1815, the French Revolution took place, and the island officially became a part of the French Republic in 1946.
The town of Fort-de-France is filled with beautiful sights. There is a very magnificent library, Schoelcher Library, which was constructed in 1889. The library owes its name to the famous French leader, Victor Schoelcher. The library stands beautifully as an emblem of Martinique’s rich history. The locals highly suggested visiting this place.
